What is the Mayflower Town Crier ?

A talented volunteer who connects people with the heritage and culture of Plymouth by acting as a ceremonial Town Crier at events run to celebrate Mayflower 400 in 2020. 

The Mayflower Town Crier will loudly and proudly publicise and participate in various occasions and celebrations during the Mayflower 400 calendar of events.

The successful applicant will be putting Plymouth on the map as a destination attraction by using speech and performance to engage visitors and give them a taste of our unique history during this important year for the city.

What’s involved?

As a prospective Mayflower Town Crier, you can expect to complete a selection and interview process.  After attending a training workshop, you will compete against other candidates for the role of Mayflower Town Crier.  Whoever is chosen will be given an induction, as well as being provided with an expert mentor and an individually designed Town Crier regalia to help them successfully to fulfil this challenge.

This exciting and varied role will take you all over the city to publicise and attend Mayflower events and ceremonies

  • Using speech and verse to engage the public and introduce events;
  • Celebrating the heritage and history of the city and the venerable role of Town Crier;
  • Providing an entertaining way of announcing activities;
  • Providing historic interest to locals and visitors alike

By getting involved you will meet new and interesting people from all walks of life, gain entertainment and public speaking experience, enhance your CV and be part of an exciting and historic city project.
